Co-Curriculars
Art: The Visual Arts are taught at St. John’s Lutheran School so that students will recognize that their creativity is a reflection of God as the Creator. The Visual Arts program is designed to foster visual literacy through inquiry, interpretation, and self-expression. Appreciation of the arts enriches the quality of life.
Music: St. John’s Lutheran knows that music is a special gift from God and important to be taught to all of our students. Our teachers believe that general music should begin with our youngest students at age 3 and continue on through the eighth grade. Oue elementary and middle school students are expected to use their God given abilities to achieve the high standards of music performance and knowledge set out in our curriculum.
Our teachers believe that general music should begin with our youngest students at age 3 and continue on through the eighth grade. We believe in the importance of music for worship (for our own worship and in leading others), as well as, the importance of a general knowledge of music to provide students with a connection to the world around them.
Students will be expected to participate in worship through music in a variety of ways including, but not limited to: Christmas Services, weekly Chapel services and other outreach opportunities. Students will also be expected to experience a broad spectrum of music from around the world and in many languages.
Students in grades 6-8 have the opportunity to participate in choir, hand bells, tone chimes, or music appreciation. The directors of each choir are experienced musicians and educators allowing for a great experience and learning opportunity. The choir and bells can be heard throughout the community at Christmas time in senior centers and nursing homes.
Physical Education: Through Physical Education, students will appreciate their body as a marvelous gift from God, understand their responsibility to maintain an active and healthy lifestyle, and develop fundamental physical, social, and fitness-related skills by participating in individual and cooperative activities.
Technology: The technology program at St. John’s enables students to develop effective skills and capabilities in a constantly changing computer-oriented world. It further enables teachers and staff to use computers and other technology to enhance instructional approaches. As the world becomes increasingly dependent on computer technology, our students and faculty must be equipped with the tools and resources to solve problems, think logically, and access and analyze information using the computer as an educational tool. Access and manipulation of information enables all of us to more effectively witness to Christ and live our lives as God’s children.
